UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY WARNS THE PUBLIC AGAINST A CONTINUOUS JOB SCAM

Umzimvubu Local Municipality warns members of the public against yet another job scam. The current scam invites job seekers to pay R2000 for EPWP vacancies that were recently advertised by Umzimvubu Local Municipality. The recipients are said to be contacted by an alleged municipal official who refuses to provide them with his/her identity.

The matter is receiving urgent attention from the municipality and other law enforcement agencies. It should also be worth noting that the municipality does not use brokers for recruitment as some of the victims indicated that they have applied via brokers. Applications for Umzimvubu local Municipality posts are hand delivered or sent via post. All Umzimvubu municipal posts are advertised on local newspapers, social media pages, municipal notice boards and the official municipal website ( The matter is receiving urgent attention from the municipality and other law enforcement agencies. Members of the public are reminded that they should know it’s a scam when:

  • they are requested to call the sender on their mobile phones because the municipality does not request to be called back by applicants, particularly on a mobile phone;
  • potential victim is required to make a payment fee in advance because the municipality does not request applicants to pay any monies to any individual in any way whatsoever in exchange for job placement;
  • and an applicant is invited to an interview for a job that they did not apply for.

Umzimvubu Local Municipality urges the public and all applicants to be vigilant and not to accept any job interview invite they did not apply for or job offer that they have never conducted an interview for. The public is further urged to alert law enforcement agencies about any suspicious activities related to Umzimvubu Municipal Vacancies.
