UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY ASSISTS MORE THAN 50 LOCAL SMMES WITH TRADING EQUIPMENT
On the 30th July 2020, Umzimvubu Local Municipality relieved more than 50 local SMME’s with trading equipment in KwaBhaca.
The Mayor accompanied by the Municipal Troika, supplied the equipment to local SMME’s from various trading sectors including designers, tombstone producers and hawkers.
“In our quest to transform the lives of local residents, we saw it fit to provide profitable relief to our Local SMME’s today. We’ve placed our primary focus on street hawkers due to the conditions they operate under. The municipality has procured 50 Gazebos for Street Hawkers, Sewing Material for 2 Designers and 1 Tombstone Converter for 1 Cooperative” said Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Sobane Mnukwa.
“SMME’s represent a significant vehicle to address the challenges of job creation, economic growth and equity in the country. The past few months have had a severe impact on our small businesses and a number of jobs were lost in the process. However as leaders of this Municipality we remain resilient on recovering our local economy and ensure that we alleviate unemployment and poverty” concluded Cllr Mnukwa.
A local beneficiary and the Chairperson of the Hawkers Association in KwaBhaca, Mbulelo Mcekana said, “I’d like to appreciate the good (gesture) demonstrated by Umzimvubu Local Municipality here today. They have given us professional gazebos and tables to place our vegetables and fruits to sell. We have also been supplied with water containers to ensure that our customers regularly wash their hands with water and soap” concluded Mcekana.
As the global pandemic continues to soar through the vulnerable areas in the district, residents are reminded to adhere to lockdown regulations and observe precautionary measures in public spaces. -Ends-
