UMZIMVUBU CONCLUDES MANDELA MONTH AT SIYAKHANA YOUTH EDUCATIONAL CARE CENTRE IN KWABHACA
On the 29th July 2020, Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Sobane Mnukwa concluded Mandela Month at the Siyakhana Youth Educational Care Centre in KwaBhaca.
The Mayor accompanied by the Municipal Troika, delivered COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and further rendered a precautionary measure awareness campaign led by the Alfred Nzo District Municipality representative, Ms Nokwe from Environmental Health.
“As we continue to celebrate the life of the former late President Nelson Mandela, we are called upon to be active citizens in the revolutionary struggle for a better South Africa, a better Africa and a better world. We are called upon to fight for the interests of the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalised” said Cllr Mnukwa.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, South Africans are reminded of fighting injustice, helping people in need and practicing reconciliation.
“Today we’re here to spend 67 minutes with our youth care centre. We’re also here to deliver Personal Protective Equipment to the centre as the virus will culminate to its peak in the upcoming 6 weeks” added Cllr Mnukwa.
During the COVID-19 awareness campaign, Ms Nokwe encouraged Siyakhana staff members to adhere to strict precautionary measures at the centre. “Children are not immune to the virus and have been identified as potential carriers of the novel coronavirus. Please ensure that all surfaces are well cleaned and that all visitors are screened and sanitized upon entry” she concluded.
Mandela Month is a global movement for positive change that begins with small actions. As each person acts, they fuel momentum towards positive change, raising awareness and expanding the reach of Mandela’s values. -Ends-
