UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY COMMEMORATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY.

Umzimvubu Local Municipality commemorated Human Rights Day in Sogoni Village KwaBhaca. The event took place on the 15th of MARCH 2024 under the theme” THREE DECADES OF RESPECT AND PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS”. The event commemorated the 1960 March against pass laws in Sharpeville where 69 people lost their lives and were left wounded. The residents of Sogoni participated in presentations from different government departments about human rights and its importance.

“The purpose of today is to educate and empower the public about their rights so they can live in harmony with one another. We also advice people to report gender based violent cases to the authories”, said Umzimvubu Mayor Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.

The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in Alfred Nzo District concluded the program by handing over sports kits and school bags to over 11 schools under Umzimvubu. Sabelo Special Pre-school also received school supplies and educational toys.
