UMZIMVUBU IN A BID TO INSTALL FREE WI-FI ACROSS PREVIOUSLY DISADVANTAGED
AREAS IN KWABHACA AND EMAXESIBENI.
Umzimvubu Local Municipality is in a bid to install free WI-FI access points across the rural
outskirts of KwaBhaca and EmaXesibeni. The Municipality intends to incorporate mediums of the 4
Industrial Revolution, in a deliberate attempt to encourage the use of online technology in previously disadvantaged areas.
During the past week, Umzimvubu Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu, led her Executive Committee
Members to a Wi-Fi handover programme at Zwelijikile Community Hall (Ward 26), EmaXesibeni.
The Mayor expressed appreciation and further encouraged community members to make use of
online technology.
“This is one of many installations to come and we urge community members to embrace online
technology. We want to develop a generation with an eye for online opportunities, because that
we believe is one of the crucial levers that will address the issue of youth unemployment in our
area. We also intend on supporting our senior secondary schools with wi-fi infrastructure, so that
our learners gain access to online studies and tertiary applications with ease,” said Cllr Ndevu.
The 1.1 million project is yet to benefit more communities within Umzimvubu Local Municipality.
Communities are further urged to safeguard the network infrastructure and report any suspicious activities / incidents to their residing Ward Councillor.
