The passing of Councillor (Cllr.) Sinethemba Gqiza on Sunday, 3rd November 2019, saddens Umzimvubu Mayor Cllr Sobane Mnukwa. Another community has been robbed of a valuable leader. The municipal council and administration has been robbed a servant of the people and his political party the EFF has been robbed a loyal servant. Cllr. Gqiza was a PR Councillor at Umzimvubu Local Municipality under the Alfred Nzo District. Cllr Gqiza was shot dead by unknown persons and succumbed to his fatal injuries which led him to death.“On behalf of Umzimvubu Local Municipality, I send our deepest condolences to his family and the community of Umzimvubu that he served. May the family find solace in knowledge that we all painfully share their loss. Cllr Gqiza was a good man who cared about his community and worked diligently for the upliftment of community.
“I also wish to plead with community leaders to gracefully mourn this young servant, regardless of which party we subscribe to.”
Mayor Mnukwa concluded by urging the government to act decisively and with speed in apprehending these criminals. The killing of political office bearers is becoming a norm in South Africa and in so doing the municipality rebukes the onslaught violence.
